ALAN WELSH SCAM

ALAN WELSH SCAM awelsh53@outlook.com and awelshmvk02@gmail.com are the email addresses you should be watching and if you’re this post you probably received an email from this « Alan Welsh ».
I should know better and should have immediately smelled the scam since the email was sent to an illogical address, the query very random, the title very scam like with unwanted capital letters etc…

But sometimes you want to believe and you waste your time answering to scam, which I did.

First the scam concerned the need for a photographer and I am just going to cut and paste what I received :

Title of the email : Your service is Needed Hello,

My name is Alan, I am planning a surprise party for my wife.
I need a good photographer to cover this event.

Please kindly reply if you would be available to work for me .
The date is May 13th of this year.
Venue still undecided but would surely be local.

I would wait for a response from you.

Best Regards,

Alan

Ok, as you can see, this all sound very generic, no mention of the place where the event is supposed to happen.
This first email was sent from awelshmvk02@gmail.com but with a « reply to : awelsh53@outlook.com ».
I didn’t notice that when I first replied.
About a week after my reply I received this second email, this time from awelsh53@outlook.com and that’s when I added 1+1.

Hello ,

I will be happy to have You do the work since you would be available for that date.

I am on a business trip to Canada, I need your service prior to my arrival.
Since it's a surprise birthday party I am trying to make sure I sort every thing I need for the party out on time without hinting her of my plans.  I should be home before the end of the coming week but I need to get done with certain preparation upfront .

I want to know how much You charge and How you Charge your clients.
Do you charge per hour/per day .
If you have different packages for your services you can email me your list and I would surely choose which a package I can afford from your price list.

Just for your information, I am still looking around for a suitable location.
It can't be done at my house because its a surprise party but its gonna be local so it won't involve any traveling.
I can bare your transportation cost, not a problem.   The event should start by 11:00 AM and we should be done latest 3: 00 PM.
( 4 hours )Am expecting maximum of 30 people.

Kindly get back to me with Your pricing.
Thanks,

Alan.

Again, this is the generic phrasing that caught my attention, the guy didn’t reply to my first and only enquiry which was the exact location of the event (at least a country lol).
I googled the email address and arrived on a blacklist of scams listing the outlook email address as one used for advertising stickers on cars scam.

I still haven’t figured out what the con is all about and probably will discover that soon because I answered positively to the second email out of curiosity.
In any case, I don’t receive scams very often but find the lack of effort disappointing.
At least, the conman could try to personalize their emails and make it a little less obvious.
Still that one is not badly done, I still haven’t gathered what the catch is !
