FERIA DE NERJA 2016

NERJA by KRISS on 15 october 2016

FERIA DE NERJA 2016 Yes for another year consecutively we have attended, well kind of, the Feria de Nerja.
This is a strange event as it seems most Spanish families choose this time of the year to get as far away from Nerja as possible.
We didn’t and this is my poorly written and recalled review of the event.

Friday or Saturday night was the official opening of the Feria and Kate closed the shop earlier than usually, not because of the Feria but because she just wanted to close.
We then headed out to the parking lot where all the fun is happening (roller coasters etc..) and had to walk by the Balcon de Europa.
We had to stop, the crowd was so dense it took us 15 minutes to cross the sea of people.
And for the first time since we’re in Nerja, we actually got to watch some fireworks! Yes that’s the one thing you need to know about Nerja and events here in general.
There are not particularly advertised especially fireworks.
I have never been in a place with so many fireworks around the year but I never get to see one because we’re always like somewhere else and then hear them from the distance ! But not this time, this time we watched every minute of it and it was good.
After the fireworks, my son pointed out that the sound of the explosions with so many people around made him think about terrorist attacks and I admitted my train of thoughts had also been there while watching the beautiful display.
Yay, like Ray Charles would have said : what a wonderful world !

Let’s move on to the serious business, roller coasters and junk food.
When we finally reached the small but extremely noisy Feria, when communication was no longer possible except for gestures, we all went into one coaster and I got sick to my stomach.
This is very new to me, I have always enjoyed them and it seems they no longer enjoy me ! I must be getting on… poor me.
At least, while hesitating between vomiting and fainting, sitting on the stairs of the family’s next moment of fun, I avoided the worst of the worst.
They all took a ride in a very small roller coaster which was apparently very violent because of the small size and very abrupt change in turns.
Kate heard her back crack twice and wasn’t able to move her left arm for two days after that.
Rose hit her cheekbone on the trolley and so that was that.

The rest of the Feria pretty much consisted in taking the kids to the magic place where they enjoyed many more rides and foods I wouldn’t even dare tasting.
One of my girls got a Chocolate Kebab and watching the holy grail preparation made me think “this might actually be worse than the famous Scottish deep fried Mars bar”.

At some point, many points, I thought to myself “I should really grab a camera and head to the Feria” but then I couldn’t be bothered really and I only did that on the very last day, on the worst possible day, just before the rain, with lots of humidity in the air, took the wrong lens, but still managed to grab an uninspired photograph of the event from as far away as I could, 3 days were already plenty to me !
