CANADA WITH THE KIDS

PREVIOUS / NEXT

TRAVELS by KRISS on 13 september 2015

So we took a small trip to Canada.
Two weeks only touring Quebec on a budget.
We landed at Montreal where we spent a couple of days, went up to the Laurentides for a day trip, drove to Quebec City where we spent another few days, then north to the St Laurent, Tadoussac and Saguenay and back to Montreal for our last days.
This was a lot of driving in two weeks and the kids got quickly fed up.

I would recommend renting a car though as it is not expensive and very practical in such a big empty country.
Roads mostly look the same between Montreal and Quebec but you get nice sceneries further north.
Nature is a late bloomer in Canada and don't expect anything green on trees before June.

We were in May and nature was winter dead, mind you some lakes were still frozen !

The temperature can be cold in the mornings but it usually gets better during the day.
A big wooly jumper is not unnecessary though.

So what is there to see up there ?

Belugas, that you will catch close to the shore at Tadoussac and no whales (too early in the season), lots of V6 and V8 pickups driving 50miles/hour, and funny sounding (sorry guys) canadians.
Anyways, you know I'm a parrot and after 10 days the canadian accent was rubbing off on me.

And I loved it !

People are very friendly, life can be expensive and cheap options for eating out were out of the question.
We mostly ate off supermarket food (not the best I know) and relied a lot on compotes and natural grains !

Canada was a lovely experience, but too cold for us.

Montreal was actually the place Amy and me liked most.
I felt like home in this city, drove my way around with no problem, same with the underground.

It is a very safe place for a photographer, I got my camera out almost all the time, even in the cities, shot in the underground, shot with assisted lights in the streets (big setting to be in the middle of a street and I will post that later).

That's about it for our so little experience of Canada.

I have to mention that I wrote this article from cold memories and this time in our lives was not the best, so it is a bit tainted with that.
