DOUBLE EXPOSURE FUN

PHOTOGRAPHY by KRISS on 12 april 2017

So what is double exposure for those who haven’t got a clue.
It is basically a technique that some cameras can achieve on their own with no post processing involved.
It consists in telling the camera through a dedicated menu to take what is called “multiple exposures” and then combine them into one final image (this is also automatically done by the camera).
You typically set a number of exposures and set wether or not the camera modifies the gain (we’ll come back on that on another post).

The end result depends entirely on what you shoot for each exposure and can range from a decomposed movement for a dancer to the shape of face completely replaced by a forest, a tree in bloom etc… to the more basic abstract photographs such as the ones I am sharing with you.
Also, cleaner double exposures can be done through photoshop to achieve completely different results, typically the tree growing out of the head.

Ok now that we have covered what double exposures are, why would anyone want to shoot that mode ? As I said, because you can decompose a movement or because you want to associate a portrait with a location, an activity, food or whatever.

Yesterday I happened to be shooting a couple of Ballet dancers and we were by the beach (despite the horrifying previous post).
The very abstract results of what I did (shooting at the setting sun) show what can be done to convey emotions with this technique.
