THE LAST DRUM CIRCLE

PREVIOUS / NEXT

FLORIDA by KRISS on 31 december 2015

And so this is our last days in Florida for now and we decided to spend our Sunday in Siesta Key beach to attend the weekly drum circle.
We left a bit late and arrived at an overcrowded Siesta beach.
This is our first time there on a Sunday and many more on week days but we had never seen the place so packed with people before.
The queue started before the parking entrance, a sign informed us the lot was full and we thought we would struggle to find a spot.

We were lucky and a family passed us by clearly on the move to their car to leave.
We asked them if they were leaving and upon their answers decided to put the signal lights on since their car was just behind us.
But it was queuing behind and I drove a few feet backwards to allow the queue to pass.
At our surprise one big muscle car with an old couple did not move.
Kate told me they were waiting for the parking space too but I saw no signal lights on their car and didn’t pay much attention.
Nonetheless Kate told them they could move away because we were taking the spot but they didn’t seem to think that way, laughed and stayed right there.

Never mind, their car could not have maneuvered to take the place and as I had anticipated they left.
What I didn’t see coming was the gracious f..k you gesture at Kate from the older lady in the car as they passed us.

We parked and since they were still waiting for a parking space close by, I stopped by the convertible, introduced myself with a good afternoon and told them at the end everyone would get their parking space and there was no need to be rude in front of my kids for that.
The woman looked puzzled and uncomfortable while her husband rudely asked me to move away.

Man these are the first and I do hope only rude people we have come across in a whole month of human goodness in Florida and that reminded me I we were still living in a real world.

Anyways, the beach was backed as the parking lot had let us expected but we sat by the sea, played in the water, listened to music and had a great time.
Soon, just before sunset, the sound of the first drummers rose up and while the family didn’t care much, I decided to have a look at anything photogenic to take.

There were 3 dancers all dressed in the same fashion, not professionals but simply smiling women playing with the sheet wide pieces of silk above them.
Before one of the people from the drum circle asked everyone that was not either dancing or juggling to get out of there, I managed to snap a few interesting shots.
Whatever if I repeat myself, I do love sunsets !

Fortunately, as we left, the skies in the distance became purple and orange and I got to make some amazing shots, perhaps the ones I like most of these last months and they will have a post of their own because I think they deserve it ! I didn’t get to give cards to the volleyball players that allowed me these shots and I really should have !
