ROAD TRIP TO PORTUGAL

PREVIOUS / NEXT

PORTUGAL by KRISS on 25 april 2017

So we decided we needed a break from Nerja, for now only a short one, so Monday morning last week started like : “Why don’t we close for a couple of days and drive to Portugal or wherever ?”.
And indeed that’s what we did a few days later, packing the car with mostly cameras and wetsuits, and children and drinks as well.

So first thing first, our kids have grown up and if they are still kids, they are not any more in terms of size and the car that used to be OK for long trips with 2 adults and 3 kids (the very car that got us to Spain) is now not so OK with 4 adults and 1 kid ! Then, if you happen to drive from Malaga to Sevilla or the other way round, there are 2 roads, a free one and a toll one ! I haven’t tried the toll one but avoid the free one by all means especially driving back from Sevilla.
This road is horrible hell, it’s like a never ending ski descent.

These put aside, it took us about 6 hours to drive from Nerja to Lagos at a very safe speed and stopping 3 times on the way.
Lagos didn’t strike me as a place that would keep my attention and I have selected 5 photographs to remember it by on this blog.

1 - The abstract surfboards : shot with a Sigma 15mm fisheye inside a surf shop I love this shot and the place was one of the most inspiring moment of Lagos for me.

2- The impossible graffiti that I shot with a fisheye again and then realised someone managed to get the proportions right with absolutely no way to look at their work from the correct distance.

3 - A door that for some reason caught my attention.

4 - The out of focus “mercado de escravos” sign, which means the slave market; the photo is out of focus because the Fuji XT1 stayed on manual in between lens swapping; the slave market freaked me out and Tom as well, we felt uneasy around the place before noticing what it was.

5 - The Aplauso strip club, located just behind the main free parking in the old town, you will not miss it when you walk back to your car ! Besides the place looking freaky because of of the one door no windows, the mermaid on the sign really freaked me out; I think it looks like a zombie mermaid don’t you ? Anyways, the woman (tourist) waiting on the pavement in front of it gave me a strange look when I stopped and took this shot ! The look on her face was priceless.
