A couple of days ago, before the wind started blowing from Poniente which means west here, and bring all the sewage from Nerja to the beautiful beaches of Maro and la Herradura, I went for a dive with Kate and Rose.
My other kids are too lazy to walk down the steep slope that got us there and there is the surfer’s ear as well.

Anyways, I decided for a change to take the Sigma 85mm f1.4 and a flat port, a setting I had already tried a couple of times in the past and never managed to get working.
Why on earth would it work that time ?

So of course I set up everything and as always when I press the AF button nothing happens, AF is simply not happening and I am there on the beach, under a burning sun, wondering what on earth is happening.
But that time I was determined to troubleshoot and I did !

To cut a long story short, there is a piece of plastic inside the housing that is designed to turn zoom rings.
The Sigma 85mm f1.4 (not the art series) is a large lens and the AF-Manual button on the lens is just placed exactly where that little mechanism is.

So when I slid the camera inside the housing it would switch the lens in manual focus, disabling the AF, and when I would take it out it would switch it back to AF, leaving me wondering what on earth was happening !

Since that mechanism can be retracted a bit, you just have to retract it when you slide the camera in and you’re done ! It’s working just fine !

This is the first time I get to AF underwater with that lens that is definitely a challenge (very long minimal focusing distance to start with) and I left it by mistake on AF-S for this first dive.

So it was not all smooth but I kind of loved it and really look forward to my next dive with it.

Unfortunately as I mentioned earlier, wind is blowing from the Atlantic just now which means 3 things :

- the water is a lot colder.
- the water is a lot murkier.
- the raw sewage from Nerja gets washed upon the beaches of the natural park of Cerro Gordo where we dive.

Forecast says there is a change of swell tomorrow afternoon so Friday morning should be ok ! Can’t wait !

Illustrations, well what I shoot last time of course !
