RAFAEL THE STREET FISHMONGER

PREVIOUS / NEXT

FOOD by KRISS on 20 january 2016

Another very cool way to buy food in Nerja is from street vendors.
You have the abuelas (grannies) from whom you can buy fruits, vegetables and eggs (see our post on their delicious mangoes) but there are also fishmongers who walk the streets with their fresh catch ! This is what happened to us the other morning.
While we were buying some vegetables from one of the abuelas in Calle Angustias in Nerja, we heard a man offering fish just behind us.
Kate stopped him and we gave a look at what he had in his trolley.
He had sardines, soles, octopus and squids.
We decided to get a few soles and ended up with 6 good sized fishes for 10€.
I honestly think you cannot beat that ! The sardines were 5€/kg and we didn’t ask about the octopus and the squids although they are the rare fish we can name in Spanish (pulpo or pulpito I think).

Kate quickly took a shot of his trolley and asked him his name.
It was a few days ago and since a lot is happening lately I think he’s Rafael but I may correct that later on when we’ll start reporting in order to make a proper photo reporting of the people here.
For now we have found a good source of fresh healthy and affordable proteine and we are happy with it !
