ADJUSTING WITH PROXIMITY

ADJUSTING WITH PROXIMITY As one can imagine, while touring the world or at least a part of it with your family comes with a price ! Yes the plane tickets of course but not only.
Then anyone could reply that everything comes with a price (including Rumplestilskin) and I would gladly agree with them.

One of the treasure of living on the move is that you get to be together with you family, but also you get to be with them all the time ! And there are no ways to avoid that if you are homeschooling, except separating the group and splitting the family but overseas in a distant country, it is not necessarily the way you might feel like, at least it isn’t for us.
You then have to adapt with constant proximity.

There are a few tricks for everyone to be OK with that and enjoy alone time nonetheless.
Rather than a long explanation, I will simply point out what each of us do to achieve that.

- When we go to the beach I often go swimming on my own, the rest don’t follow me all the time because they are busy doing something else or scared of sharks.
- Kate always go for a long walk along the beach and the same applies (except for the sharks, we are not that paranoid).
- Rose often picks a tantrum and isolate herself for a wee while behind a dune when she can find one.
- Tom and Amy enjoy taking a long bath when they know they will be alone with no one to disturb them, it can also be a source of fight as regards to whom goes first.
- Kate sometimes likes reading trashy magazines and it’s a code everyone respects in the house ! Do not disturb.
- I sometimes practice a mix of yoga and aikido on the beach and no one bothers me (except Tom lately).

There are no absolute rules but I tend to think that what we really care about and that’s necessary for us is easily respected by the other members of a family.
Don’t imagine for an instant that everything goes smoothly all day for a bit because it is not the case.
We are all close to nervous breakdown every time Rose picks another tantrum (we all hope for a quick growing up out of that stage soon), and fights are common on trivial matters.

But on the whole, I would say we are dealing pretty well with the constant proximity that this adventure implies !
