LANDMINES CAMBODIA

PREVIOUS / NEXT

CAMBODIA by KRISS on 29 january 2017

In Cambodia I believe you will see many landmine victims playing in orchestras outside of temples or near the night market in Siem Reap for instance.
A board advertises they are landmine victims and it’s up to your good heart to give them something.

But they are not the only unfortunate chaps who got crippled over landmines or other atrocities and 2 men particularly caught my attention during this stay.
One of them was begging in front of the Asian market in Siem Reap, he had both arms and both legs cut out and still smiled and waved away to people giving him a dollar.

The other one took us over with his motorcycle while horse riding and I noticed he was carrying a crutch on the side of the bike.
He had only lost a leg, the use of the word “only” seems displaced but it came naturally to me while still thinking about the chap with no arms and no legs at all.

Later on, we saw his motorcycle parked next to a field and the man was cutting some grass.
I got of my horse and asked him if I could take a few pictures of him working.
To which he didn’t object I think he couldn’t give a fuck what my white tourist’s ass wanted to shoot as an exotic souvenir.

Kim started talking to the guy and then we were able to exchange a few words.
He explained he had lost his leg on a landmine during the war and that he was cutting some grass for his cow.
Here are the photographs of both man and cow !
