I BROKE MY FLIP FLOPS YET AGAIN

PREVIOUS / NEXT

EQUIPMENT by KRISS on 11 february 2017

Last year I broke 2 pairs of flip flops.
One of them was a Reef Phantom and broke in between the toes while walking on the beach.
It was in Nerja and I had perhaps 1.5 miles walk on a flat road to get back home so it was OK I guess.

After that experience I looked for a stronger pair of flip flops and one that would not smell.
These EVA soles don’t cut it for me, I have to go full leather.
I came across the Reef Jay Bay III which are over-priced but have good arch support, feel like shoes when walking or running or even skating.
So yes, I abused them, they walked on the beach, they got wet with salt water, I never rinsed them, wore them every day for about 6 months but still I would have expected more from them.
They broke on a hiking trail in Phu Quoc, climbing to see waterfall.
The little piece of fabric that’s in between the toes again.
The way up was bad enough, I really wondered how I would manage the way back !

I found a solution with a small size lightload towel which I tied around my foot and the sandal.
It got me back to the parking lot in a breeze !

Now I have actually decided to reiterate the experience with Reef Jay Bay III in spite of this and I’m going to tell you why : they are so comfortable and I believe if I take care of them and stop walking in the sea with them I might be able to keep them for at least a year.
