UNDERWATER PORTRAITURE

UNDERWATER by KRISS on 24 june 2017

Last week, I received a question from an american girl who wondered wether she took her Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art to Hawaii for underwater purposes.
I advised her to do so, I do so myself, with the wrong configuration and still I am pleased with some of the results !

So my set up is the following one :

- Nikon D800.
- Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art.
- Aquatech housing.
- 8” dome port on its own.
- no extension ring (although Aquatech recommends a 30mm extension ring.

My lens ends up almost stuck to the dome port and I am sure there are many reasons I don’t want that but it works, it focuses hyper fast and results are sharp… unless (like I did) I decide to swap lenses in the middle of the shooting in which case some humidity always ends up in the housing afterwards creating at best a thin thin fog that softens images a lot !

However I am so happy with the results Leonie gave me that I plan next session to be a 35mm lens only to avoid the fog issue.
After a couple of time trying it I believe a housing should only be opened once a session is finished and you should stick to one lens only for the whole photoshoot.
