MILKY YES WAY

PHOTOGRAPHY by KRISS on 05 september 2016

Ok, this is one of my first stars photoshoot ever and it didn’t happen in the best of conditions.
Having booked a photoshoot right before that on the same site (with a very very nice and kind lady) I got carried away as the sun set down and found myself with practically no light to adjust any framing to start with.

To complicate things I had to move quite early because the person who was supposed to pick up my model had not realised we were at the bottom of a rocky beach with absolutely no light and no way to spot us from the road.
I decided to walk back to the road for her to be able to carry on with the evening and guessed I would probably get less light pollution (which was by the way the case).

The first shot I did by the beach in Maro near Nerja, just before leaving and I actually have no recollection of anyone painting the rock with light ! Someone must have though and I took advantage of it !

The second shot was up the road in complete (almost) obscurity and if does not include any element other than the sky, I still like it because it’s my first ever shot of the milky way.

As regards to the equipment I used I tried 2 configurations.
One with a Nikon D800 mounted with Nikon 16-35mm f4 (my underwater camera) and one D4s mounted with Sigma 35mm f1.4 art series.
I shot both at the widest aperture and I can say the Nikon lens was useless for that exercise.
I got far better shots with the Sigma 35mm f1.4 !
