FULL MOON RIP OFF

PREVIOUS / NEXT

NERJA by KRISS on 17 october 2016

It all started saturday night when my friend Paco sent me a photo with Whatsapp to show me the beautiful reflection of the moon in the bay of Nerja.
I was tired and walking back home.
By the time I would have got the the Balcon de Europa, the moon would have been already very high and I decided to let it go.
Then yesterday, another whatsapp message caught my attention.
It was one from the parent’s discussion thread of one of my daughter.
Quite useful thing really if you manage to skip through the private discussions and jokes in Spanish that you don’t understand because I can check on my little one’s homework that way !

But yesterday it was an article about the full moon that grabbed my attention.
It said the Luna Llena was going to be as big as can be, 14 times bigger than it is usually seen.
I tried to picture what 14 times bigger than the usual moon was and I couldn’t believe it.
I was about to capture a science fiction picture yesterday night ! I called on my friend Sofia who unfortunately couldn’t make it but still I walked out around 8pm with part of my family (everyone but the boy - that could be the title of many family moments lately), a camera and a tripod !

We arrived at the balcon and the moon wasn’t out.
Patience, it was a bit cloudy in the distance but I thought to myself “even dense clouds wouldn’t block 14 moons light”.
And indeed when it did start to rise above the distant hills, the moon was screened out by the clouds but still the light kept the suspense going for another 5 minutes… Is it going to be as big as they say ! And the higher it rose, the more it shown and the suspense quickly disappeared.
It was a standard full moon, beautiful and all but certainly not 14 times bigger than it usually is !

Anyways, I still got a couple of shots just to make the hour go by, the weather was nice, and maybe I shot some UFO (or whatever the little green light in the sky is).

Yes I like the photos, when you see photos like these it makes you realise you should always carry a camera with you. Right place at the right time.

I had planned the damn moon but this is why I always carry a camera with me, most of the time unused but you never know.
