OUR CAMERA GEAR

EQUIPMENT by KRISS on 12 march 2016

This is something we had had in mind for quite a while but needed some source of impulse to get it done.
I am talking about creating our own camera equipments, the ones we can actually make.
After lots of thoughts, tests of many products along the years we felt that there was a real lack of products for photographers out there, which is really strange considering the number of people who actually own a camera nowadays.
To me it seems like most customers are stuck with either the crappy camera strap that came with their camera, home made solutions from websites like Etsy or really expensive luxury straps such as Holdfast who primarily targets professional photographers.

For anyone who simply wish to change their strap for a nicer one, there are very little options.
Nothing to be found in specialized shops (or perhaps in big cities), not much on Amazon either.
So we decided to make straps as we had been looking for all these years.

First, the choice of materials, fabrics and leathers.
I own a Hold Fast money maker that I purchased for a fortune and which weighs as much as both cameras hanging on to it.
I think you could easily hang a car above a cliff with it and if it is plenty sturdy to feel safe about hanging expensive gear on the sides of it, perhaps it is a bit too much and a thinner leather with smaller bolts and hangers would have sufficed.

For that reason, we opted for lighter materials, strong enough to hold a camera but probably not an elephant.
Still, I trust any of our straps to hold our Nikon D4s with the Nikkor 70-200mm mounted on it.

I usually only come across fully nylon or leather solutions and I wanted to try other softer fabrics as well because they are more comfortable, as well as scarves for the same reason.
It’s actually a lot more complicated to work with and I understand why most manufacturers choose the easy way with nylon bands.
At the end, these are much softer and lighter and fabric offers a broader choice of patterns, qualities, thickness etc…

Most of our creations are still being sewed, mostly because we have prepared them on our own and each piece required a lot of time.
Also, perhaps because we’re mad we chose to sell them in little wooden boxes with our logo on it.
I can’t even start to explain how difficult that is to do that on a budget !

Anyways, now after a few weeks of organizing things, we finally came up with 4 different type of items, scarf straps, leather wrist straps, fabric straps and nylon straps.
All can be purchased from our online shop which I coded this week.
This is by far the fastest and most effective coding of an online shop I have done so far and it’s all for us !
