MY LAST SUNDAY AT THE SHOP

PREVIOUS / NEXT

THE SHOPPE by KRISS on 10 june 2018

This last week I’ve been away with the fairies or rather burden with so many thoughts that everyone on the boat keeps asking me to pay attention.

To my defence there are quite a few things to think about these days, there you go I’ll give you a non exhaustive list :

- in 5 days we are handing down our shop and have no more income for the next few months.
- we have to sell our car within the next 2 weeks.
- Amy is going away to Madrid for a week.
- we still haven’t finished connecting the solar panels.
- there are random but nonetheless important little fixes to do around the boat.
- how the hell are we going to lift Belle on the boat when we’re on the dry.
- how is she going to adapt to potty train on the boat.
- we must sail and anchor all summer until October.
- how are we going to source water in the Balearics.
- we need to hire a car for the last week her.
- how is the weather going to be (so far it’s not great).

And the list goes on and on like this.
I thought writing it down would help me put in perspective it actually makes it scarier ! No problem, we’ve been there with huge list of things to get done in a tiny timeframe many times before and being a wonderfully working team (thank you Kate) has always allowed us to cross summits.

Today it is the last Sunday I spend alone in the shop and so far I’ve been opened almost an hour and only one woman step foot in.
I must admit it’s very early (10.30) and I drove in early to find a parking space, have some time to write this blog, put in this week’s sales etc…

This shop was not working for us anymore and having the opportunity to pass it down to someone is a blessing.
Besides we’ve managed to get our friend Fernanda a freaking great job for the summer, since she’ll be the one in the shop and we’re so happy about it.
But I would lie if I said I don’t feel kind of weird about it.
I don’t know how I feel really which is why I say weird.
It’s a mix feeling of emotional, relived, anxious, happy, kind of sad and other very contradictory things.

If I go back a few years on this blog I can read again the frame of mind we were in when we opened this shop and it was a life saver when we landed back from Florida (oh another thought that will get me sentimental).
Kate put a lot of herself in it, more than I did, and the frustration of not reaching the expected result kept building up over the course of our time here.
Maybe we should have lowered our expectations from this shop but then what was the point ?

Anyways it’s going to be in someone else’s hands now and I hope it will blossom and like I love to picture life, it’s just a chapter of a book that turns to a new one.
In a couple of chapters we should be looking at having another go at a little handcraft shop of ours, somewhere else (Menorca it seems), but this only life knows and we are nothing more than her’s noble servants ! That’s it for today.

And to illustrate this post, a few photographs that date back to March 2017, a ton has happened since then but it seems like yesterday.
