SPANISH WINTER IN NERJA

PREVIOUS / NEXT

NERJA by KRISS on 06 january 2016

Is El Niño changing the face of the planet and how much does it impact Europe ? Well I have no answer to that but I can tell you in terms of « I am cold » how cold or hot a place feels to me.

I have experienced winter in many different places which I will now rate from hotter to colder.

- Costa Rica.
- Seychelles islands.
- Florida.
- Morocco.
- Andalusia (Spain).
- Cote d’Azur (France).
- Scotland.
- Auvergne (France).
- Cotes du Rhone (France).

So yes, by far, Cotes du Rhone in France is the coldest place I have ever spent a winter, the almost daily northern wind helps a great deal with chilling your bones to the core.
Then, Inverness is a pretty cold place but look on a map it’s at the very top of Scotland so this is acceptable.

On the other hand, Costa Rica, Seychelles Islands and Florida are quite close in terms of feeling warm but we didn’t stay in Florida during the real winter months (January and February) and we have been told temperatures are exceptional this year !

Now I believe that Morocco and Andalusia in Spain have similar climates and depending exactly on your location there can be great deal of change in terms of temperature.
For instance, our car thermometer took 5°C in half an hour driving from the north when we approached Malaga.
I remember quite well how winter were when I was a kid in Cote d’Azur and it seems to me it was a lot colder than here with many mornings below 5°C.

Right now, the coldest we have experienced in Spain is somewhere around 14°C in the morning and most afternoons have always been above 20°C.
Still, this does not feel that warm to me (perhaps because we just landed from a tropical climate) and I can see people around wear anything from shorts and tee-shirts (few of them) to big coats and fur boots (some of them) or a pair of jeans and a light jacket (most of them).

I pride myself in being in the last group for now and hope winter is going to remain mild here, I take absolutely no pleasure in feeling cold !
